We are now going to watch Athalassa Park and Lake
Athalassa National Forest Park is located in Nicosia, the capital city of Cyprus. It is a very large park of 840 hectares with lakes, dam, botanical garden, nature trails and a centre of environmental information. The lakes attract many animals, birds, insects and amphibian such as turtles. The flora of the area is very diverse as most of the trees are planted, such as pine trees (Pinus pinea), (Pinus halepensis) and (Pinus brutia). The dominant species of the area are the Convolvulus, Helianthemums, Thyme, Lasithi, Ziziphus lotus and mosphilla. Athalassa Park has also a great diversity in the fauna. It has 173 species of birds, 7 mammalian species, 6 reptile species, 1 amphibian species and several butterflies. It has many aquatic birds, mainly migratory near and inside the lakes such as egrets and kingfishers. The centre of environmental information has a botanical garden with many native species for further information about the park.
