We are now going to watch the Lake of Oroklini

The lake of Oroklini is located south in the area of Oroklini, in the city of Larnaca and it is an area of ​​approximately 0.5 square kilometers. You can see the lake on the side of the highway going from Larnaca to Kokkinochoria. The water from the lake comes from the rain during the colder months of winter and can stay for many months in a level that marine organisms can survive. But since the temperature of Cyprus in the summer months is very high, the water level goes down and needs to be reinforced.  Some years ago they tried to put water in the lake from the sewage treatment system but the smell disturbed both the residence of Oroklini as well as the fauna of the lake and so they stopped the process. It is a home for many species of fish, birds and plants. This lake is extremely important for two species of birds, the Spur-winged Plover and the Stilt. Not only that, is also one of the top five areas of Cyprus for the reproduction of those species. It is also a habitat worth to be conserved about its salt marsh vegetation. ​
